Weekly Wrap Up #158

Reading time 4 mins

mv Hello Lovelies! Welcome to my weekly wrap up!

What can I say about this week? I was really…busy, again. I was so crazy busy trying to get things done that somethings got missed. First, I scheduled my Beyond the Books post for 4:00PM instead of 4:00AM. Then I totally forgot to even write up my review for The Queen’s Rising, which was really good!

What made this week so crazy was this awesome article that American Bookseller’s Association wrote in Bookselling this Week about our plans for That Book Store. It is really good, so I decided to share it with a few groups in my town on Facebook. One of those posts got over 200 reactions and over 75 comments!

The reaction was so welcoming and positive that I thought there must be a lot of book lovers in my community. So I started looking for a book club. Late Tuesday night, I decided to start a book club on Meetup. By Wednesday morning the club had over 50 members and I actually had to upgrade my account on Meetup to accept new members!

Of course, then I had to pick a book for us to discuss aaaaaannnd find a place that would accommodate my best guess for the number of members that might want to go to that first meeting. That led me to our local library, where I put an application in to reserve a room. Of course, they just called and informed me that now the space isn’t actually available so I will be on the hunt to find a meeting space large enough to accommodate all the folks that want to be part of this book club.

That Book Store’s Indiegogo Campaign is LIVE! Check it out, (especially the video, for those of you that read Belle’s Dilemma, lol). Donate if you can and get some cool perks and please share this on your social media.

I finished reading 2 more books this week. One I just reviewed on Goodreads and the other needs a review here. I also acquired a bunch of new books. So next week will be another busy week of reading between getting things done for That Book Store, my new book club, and this blog. Wish me luck!

Oh, one more thing…

I am going to BookExpoAmerica this year as a bookseller! I can’t tell you how excited I am. I hope to see all of you that are going at some point. I will be doing a lot of rubbing elbows with other booksellers and publishers so this is going to be a great opportunity for That Book Store to make some contacts. Also, I’ll have my Miguel in tow. I can’t wait to see New York City. I have never been so I will probably be a giddy train wreck of nerves.

You have been busy! It’s awesome that your little bookstore is getting attention before it’s even started, though. That can only be a good thing if you can keep that momentum going and keep the interest up. I think it’s great starting a book club in your community. You get both reading and you can scope out future customers. The more people like you the more likely they are to shop, it’s stupid but true. And yay! I know you mentioned never having been to NYC before so I’m excited for you getting to go and to BEA too. You’ll come back with way too many ARCs and a whole bunch of contacts and it will be totally worth it. Also, NYC!

Hope you have a good week.

That’s really awesome about the bookish meetup, and I bet that’s good for your future bookstore too 🙂 hey, maybe you can do these meetings in the store later on? It’s so exciting 🙂
And I hope you’ll bring back pics from Book Expo 🙂 sounds absolutely cool.

Wow sounds like you have been super busy!! Lots of exciting things with the bookstore and yay for a book club. Hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!

You are so busy, and I’m glad that the idea of the bookstore is taking off! What a lot of interest in a book club! I used to attend one at the local Starbucks, but of course you’ll have way too many to fit (though usually only a portion of the group attends any one meeting).

I liked the write-up about you, and thanks for the shout-out there 🙂 Hope you find a bank which accommodates your loan needs. And attending Book Expo as a bookseller, beyond words—yay for you! I hope someday to be able to go to one.

Yea we have like 17 RSVPs for the first meet up. I gotta find a location that will accommodate that many people. I am so sad the library cancelled my reservation. I hate to change the date now since we have so many that want to attend. Of course I had to give you a shout out! I really enjoy your blog and it made me feel so special that you mentioned my book store. Thanks for stopping by Kari!

Wow, you had an awesome week, and my month of illness has left me totally out of the loop. Yay for the book club and BEA.

Congrats on your new book club! I hope you find somewhere to host it – it should be a lot of fun. 🙂 That’s awesome you’re going to BEA as a bookseller and getting to see NYC for the first time. I love New York, and I’m planning a trip for this November. I wish it was for BEA but alas….that didn’t work out this year.

I wish you would have been able to go this year to BEA. I would love to hang out with you a bit. I think I found a location, it’s not my first choice but it will work if it is available. I am waiting for a call back on that. Thanks for stopping by Lauren!

So many exciting things going on with the store. Yeah! I am still thinking about BEA. It’s just an NJT ride for me and no hotel, but they raised the price so much and I am not sure if my co-blogger will be able to go with me, since the job plans are not solidified yet for when grad school ends. I will probably have to live vicariously through you.

Yea, the hotel is going to kill us. I can’t even consider it till I get my tax refund (probably around the same time everyone else is booking theirs). I do get in free but I need to pay for my Miguel to get in. He probably won’t even enjoy it, but I am floored he wants to go with me. Thanks for stopping by Sam!

I felt the same way about a book club. I can’t believe the response we have been getting. We have 74 members so far. 18 of those have signed up to go to the first meet up. It is really amazing. I have been talking to Belle about starting a classics and a YA book club on different days of the month so we can get more people in. Also, I need to read more classics. I did find a space for the group, so that’s settled. Thanks for stopping by Katherine!

I’m so excited about your bookstore! Good luck! I noticed you hauled Only Human. I want to start the Themis Files books, but I keep putting it off because I think I won’t like the format of Sleeping Giants!

The format did take a bit to get used to. Luckily, I had read and loved Illuminae not too long before this, so I was ready for an altered format book. Have you read Illuminae? It was really a fun read with it’s altered format.
