Reading time 3 mins

This book had me drawn in by the second page. The Payment Series is written so well I couldn’t put it down and finished the whole series in 3 days, in the middle of my workweek. The main character, Catrina Carter, has found herself in serious trouble. She is over one-hundred and fifty thousand dollars in debt, has received final notices for water and electric, and is about to be evicted. A friend shares how she got out of debt over a few drinks and how it helped her curb her spending. Catrina decides she has no choice and submits herself for service to DMA, Debt Management Associates, who will sell her for one year to a benefactor who will pay off her entire debt. The catch is that she must do whatever he wants, however he wants it. Catrina is auctioned off and then the real fun begins.

Catrina goes through some pretty horrific scenes in the course of a year. She endures punishments daily as she endures this type of slavery to repay the money she has owed. She is humiliated, spanked, and sodomized daily by her benefactor, Jared. There are some safeguards in place for her. She has to go through classes to help her learn how to manage finances, and DMA checks in to see how she is being treated often. At some points, I feared for the main character and realized her forced submission may not be politically correct. There is that whole consent thing lingering, but this is a fantasy. She did submit to the contract willingly, and she could have got out of it if she had other options. This is just a really great book about how everything is for sale. Selling rights to your body to get money is not a new concept. Getting out of debt by an organization that caters to those that willing to buy and sell, is genius.

Jared is not a dominant that is easy to love. The twisted relationship that these two characters find themselves in is surprising and eye opening. There is not a lot of love between these two, I would not characterize this as a romance. Yet, as Catrina goes on, she finds she may need this type of treatment. I am not gonna say that I could relate, but I could understand how this could happen. It is just amazing what you can get used to.

Cassandra Carr is an excellent writer and her details give just enough without spoon feeding the scene to her readers. This book is written in a style that only allows the readers to know what Catrina knows. The sex in this book will appeal to those who love anal play, forced oral, spanking, and humiliation. The gang bang scenes were pretty hot if you ignore the whole issue of consent. This book turned me on. It was a somewhat disturbing read, in a delicious way. I would definitely recommend this book (or the whole series, as it is a boxed set) and this author.

CASSANDRA CARR is a multi-award winning romance writer. When not writing she enjoys watching hockey and hanging out online. Cassandra’s books have won numerous “Best Book Of” awards and her novella Unexpected Top was nominated in the E-book Erotic Romance category of RT’s Reviewers’ Choice Awards. She thinks the best part of being a writer is penning stories about love and sex while most others struggle with commutes, micro-managing bosses and cranky co-workers.
