I love retellings. A good author can take a fairy tale we all know and love, and make it even better. A good author make us misremember the original tale, can reinvent the tale in an even better way. I love retellings for the most part.

Retellings I have Read:

1) The Queen of Hearts Saga by Colleen Oakes

Based on Alice in Wonderland’s Queen. I loved getting to know the motivation for the Queen’s evil. I am really looking forward to book 3. This series is number 1 on my list for a reason.

2) The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

This series is trying to cover all the fairy tales and still maintain a full arc. I have read Cinderella (Cinder), Little Red Riding Hood (Scarlet), and Rapunzel (Cress) so far.

3) The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

TheWrathandtheDawnbyRenéeAhdieh

Loosely based on the fable of 1001 Nights (Arabian Nights), this is one of my favorite reads…ever!

4) A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas

a wicked thing This story explores what happens from the moment Aurora wakes up. What if it wasn’t true love? What if Aurora doesn’t want to live happily ever after as the princess?

5) Lustfully Ever After (anthology)

LustfullyEverAfterHiRes

The stories feature magic and wish granting as only erotic authors can imagine. The stories also include the re-telling of Rapunzel, Mermen, Jack and the beanstalk, Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Puss in Boots, Snow White and Beauty and the Beast they are not the way I recall them from my youth. I want to remember them just like this.

6) A Princess Bound (anthology)

princess-boundThese are re-imagines for mature audiences. These princesses all have the strength and will of the modern woman, but with a twist of magic in their lives. By adding a bit of submission into the heroines, this book makes every tale an adventure into new territory.

Not 10, I know.
