Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Today I am talking about my favorite reads of 2016 (so far).
So many great books have been released this year already. I missed out on a few of them, but here are the ones I loved that I have read. These are not really in order, just in the order I read them. Click the cover to see my reviews.
Do I need to explain my love for this? It had a dystopian society, it had a wondrous world, it had heartbreak and angst, it had strength and cunning, it had a swoon worthy romance, and a bit of paranormal sprinkled throughout.
This was an awesome read because of the style of the writing, the locations, the characters we meet, the thoughts of the main character, and, most of all, the mystery of how we got here.
Words I would use to describe this book; action packed, great storytelling, best dystopian ever, and bloodydamn brilliant come to mind. This book was amazing! I also loved the follow up, Golden Son. I haven’t read the third book yet because I am not yet ready to be done with series.
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I found myself completely engrossed in the daily life of these three characters in this small town. This is such a great story of coming of age and finding yourself. I laughed, I cried and I rooted out loud for these characters. The characters really touched me, and I won’t soon forget them.
That’s right, all three books were amazing. I just love this YA Fantasy series, the whole damned thing. If you haven’t read it, you definitely should.
Flamecaster is one of those stories that has everything I want in a fantasy. This story had many layers, well drawn characters, descriptive world building, magic, dragons, and a promise of more to come. I should add that I bought the whole Seven Realms series after reading this just so I could catch up. I loved this book that much.
The Fireman is really about a woman named Harper in the midst of a plague of fire. I did almost nothing but read this book for three days. I couldn’t wait to get back to Harper’s story. That was time well spent. I wish I could back and do it all again.
The Sudden Appearance of Hope by Claire North
I loved the character of Hope. When I wasn’t reading this book, I was thinking about it. I was thinking in the prose the author wrote Hope’s story in. That is the mark of a truly great story in my opinion.
And I Darken by Kiersten White
I just loved this book. The characters, the world building, the time period, the battles. It was complex but really well written. I can’t wait for the sequel.
I haven’t even written this review yet. I have to include it on this list because it was amazing, and heart wrenching. The book tells the story of a plane crash and weaves the before facts for all the people on the plane. The after is definitely worse for the survivors.
So those are my favorite read of 2016 so far. Wow, that is actually 10 (not including the the two whole series I threw in there)! I didn’t include all my 5 star reads because they don’t all qualify as my favorite (is that weird?).
