BEYOND THE BOOKS- I Collect These

Beyond the Books is a weekly meme hosted right here at KBK. For more information and future topics click here.

This week we are talking about things we collect.

Wow! I have no idea why I picked this topic. I collect absolutely nothing at the moment.

Okay, that is not entirely true. I have a large collection of my children’s art.

It is all over my house. Here are a few pics of them, (try not to get too jealous).

I also collect books, but I kinda feel like my collection is pretty inferior. I have books all over my room, and then a formal collection (suitable for little eyes) in the dining room.

The ones in my room.

Yea, it is a bit messy. Sorry about that.

I got a few stacks in my living room and dining room. Here are pics of those.

Actually it is all a bit messy. I just can’t seem to find time to make everything picture perfect, sorry.

I used to have a bunch of snow-globes. I have kids though, so now I am down to two.

I would love to hear about things you collect.

I didn’t even think of the kids artwork but yeah I have that too! I also have an obsession with coffee mugs and wine glasses. Anytime I see cute ones I need to have them.

Oh we do have a ton of coffee mugs as well. It isn’t intentional. I plan to have a few more of the kids peices framed, you know eventually.

I’m afraid my one and only collection would be the books on my Kindle, which are very hard to show ! I kept most drawings made by my daughters, from the very firsts, but keep them in a file. I want to be able to show them later, when they’re much older 😉

I kept the very first ones in a file. Four kids and then I didn’t know what to keep anymore, those files are very full. My 6 yr old started hanging her art around the house once she figured out tape was a good adhesive. Now she can work a tack into the wall. In order to keep it fair, I always hang up my 5 yr old’s art too. My oldest is an artist, so her art has been up for years. So now I just have art all over.

I love the cat in the hat and the lady with blond hair. Is that you?
My mom saved all of our stuff in portfolios, and when I went to look at it a few years ago a lot of it crumbled. My sister took photos of her kids’ work, and the really good stuff as they got older she had matted and framed. There is no artwork in her houses that isn’t by the kids or photos of them. It actually works pretty well and now they’re all grown up. 🙁 and not cute anymore.

I want to frame a lot of there work. I love the cat in the hat too. That was done by my five year old who has cerebral palsy! The lady with the blond hair is me, it was done on the back of a menu at a beach restaurant by my then seven year old.
How sad that the art she saved crumbled. Photos in frames sound like a great idea!

I love children’s art, and I think it’s great that you have framed everything. I put things on the fridge…and then in a trunk where I’ve saved them. I should display a few! Thanks for the great idea.

I also have bookish collections…and a few other things. Check it out!

I need to get a few more frames. In my imagination they are all matted down with specialty frames, but in reality they will probably all be mismatched and displayed awkwardly. Oh well!

I actually wrote a blog post about my bookmark collection for august. Bookmarks are about the only thing I collect and pluchies, I love them. I also have books, but I wouldn’t really call that a collection for some reason. Those children’s art are adorable! I am sorry to hear your snow globe collection is down to two.
