This book is high fashion sexy drama! I fell in love with the characters, they were full of flaws and unscrupulous in their dealings. This book was delicious and very well written!
Christine Fairbrother is a high powered attorney on the brink of getting Silk. She is a divorce attorney, or barrister, and her next big case could be just what she needs to complete her application, or destroy her chances for silk. She aspires to become Queen’s Coucel in her native England, a rite known as Taking Silk. Isabelle Cisse is her daughter, an aspiring fashion designer with enough talent to make it in the cut throat fashion scene. Victoria Crabtree is the mistress to a multimillion dollar fashion manufacturer and has enough drive to ruin any person who stands between her and the life of luxury she is accustomed to. All of these woman collide and crash in this witty drama about sex, drugs and power.
Other key players include Will, who is Isabelle’s partner in their design company. Will is an all around good guy. Joel is a man with his hands in everything and on everybody. Joel ambition has no limits or scruples. Massimo Rivelli is a fashion manufacturer, Victoria’s meal ticket and all around bad guy who ends up being represented by Christine in his high profile divorce.
The thing that I adored about Rupert James’ writing in this book, is that he made me love and hate all the girls. I hated their poor life choices and rooted for them to succeed somehow in their endeavors. I felt like a silent observer into the minds and lives of these women. They seem like real people, blundering from man to man (and sometimes woman), making the best of the moment and yearning for more. The lengths that they go to get what their hearts truly desire has no bounds.
I think it will appeal to people who are looking for a bit of drama. I read this over sized paperback in almost record time. It was full of cliffhangers and the author keep me turning the page to find out what happened next. The book flips back and forth between the three characters in every chapter. It was easy to keep up with all of the players without any confusion. This is a tough feat considering the dynamics of the drama. This book transcends gender, sexuality and race to include a bit of everything in one page turning drama. I really hope that there is a sequel!
